Solarus Solar Laboratory is completed in Mozambique
Solarus is committed to research and to the continuous development that is necessary to thrive in the competitive global market. Several R&D projects have been undertaken over the years, in collaboration with well known universities. In late 2011, together with the Swedish International Development Agency, Gulbenkian Foundation, Lund and Maputo Universities, Solarus embarked on a research project to build a solar laboratory at the University of Maputo (Mozambique) in Africa.
The project team consist of: Professor Björn Karlsson (Gavle / Lund University), Professor Luis Chea (Maputo University), Henrik Davidsson (Solar Energy PhD at Lund University), Ricardo Bernardo (Solar Energy PhD at Lund University), João Gomes (Solar Engineer at Solarus AB), Christian Gruffman (Electrical Engineer at Finsun AB), Chabu Mumba (Solar Energy Master student at Lusaka University).
The project achieved two major outcomes. Firstly, a complete solar laboratory was built from scratch. This laboratory is able to measure any solar collector type (Photovoltaic, Thermal or Hybrid) and it is equipped with Solarus Thermal and PVT modules, as well as, tracking equipment, solar radiation sensors, loggers, IV tracers, flowmeters, etc. Secondly, a course on the fundamentals of solar energy and collector simulation was conducted locally. This project can be replicated in other countries that wish to realize the potential of their solar energy resources with Solarus' state-of-the-art solar technology.
